You could always put your 'PROOFED' info in the Document Properties - A) very few people look there, B) Even if they did, I doubt they'd delete it even then!

Word 2003 - File > Properties > Summary
Word 2007 - Office Button > Prepare > Properties

That should get round the issue easily enough!
