how do you insert a vertical line to seperate text segments in office 2010?

i tried "draw tabel" and removing all the lines execpt for one but doing it this way leaves a rather big gap between the text and the line is their anyway i can get the text closer to the line without shrinking it? or is their an alternativ way to insert vertical lines?
