Default Part Time Resource Query

A'noon all. Apologies if this is the umpteenth query about resourcing in MS Project, but I've had a hunt and can't seem to find the answer to my problem. I'm also a self-taught newbie to Project, so I'm probably missing something fairly obvious.

I'm running a project where there are a number of people who can only be available for a set amount of time each week: for instance my time on the project equates to one day a week, although that may be broken down to two hours on a Monday, half an hour on a Tuesday, etc The same would go for other people on the project, although the amount of time they can spare each week varies from half a day up to 3.5 days.

I initially assumed that, to make myself available for a day a week, I'd set the max time in the resource sheet to 20%, but I then find out that this means I can only assign myself to 20% of a task. So I tried to be clever and change my working time to being 1.5 hrs each day, so that if there was a task which took 2 hours, I would schedule it over two days. This didn't work either (Project would recalculate that as being on one day and say that I was over-allocated).

So what I'm looking for is a solution which tracks the amount of time I've spent on various tasks on a given week, and informs me when these aggregated tasks exceeds my allotted 7.5 hours a week. Is this possible in MS Project?

Many thanks for any suggestions passed my way.

Liam
