Default Missing files

Running Windows 7 Professional and Microsoft Office 2010.

‘Date modified’ for a file does not always update to last date saved. Displaying ‘Date last saved’ also does not update. If file is copied to another folder or a memory stick then the correct date modified/saved is shown on the copy. What is the difference, if any, between ‘Date modified’ and ‘Date last saved’?

A Folder does not always list all files that are known to exist and ‘Search’ is equally unsuccessful. ‘Missing’ files can only be located by opening from the required program (File-Recent Files in Office 2010).

‘Refresh’ does not cure these problems.

Is there a limit to the number of files in a folder?
Why does a folder also list files in its sub-folder? How can this be corrected?
Is there a limit to file size?

Main problems to date relate to PowerPoint files over 20 MB in a folder with other PowerPoint files, hence the questions re file size and folder limitations.
Suggestions to overcome frustrating problems described above would be appreciated.
