Word documents suddenly and randomly open read only
About a year ago, I started having a problem that is driving me carzy. I would love to have a solution.
I have had this computer for about 6-7 years. There have been no major changes. About a year ago, random Word documents started opening as read only. I usually didn't notice it until I tried to save them, then I'd get the Save As... dialog box.
It's never the same document and it only happens occasionally. If I close the document and immediately reopen it, it's fine. If I've made changes, then I have to save it under a different name (usually I add "-x"), then delete the old one, and rename the new one.
It only happens occasionally -- maybe a few times a month or less. But when it happens, it seems to happen a few times, then will not happen for weeks.
I'd love to know why this is happening, but even more how to stop it.
Failing that, I'd like a way to have Word warn me that the document is read only so I can close and reopen before I make changes.
Has anyone else seen this and is there a solution?
