Bullets: Unlike numbering I cannot find a way of altering the indent. How?

Numbering: I set up a style with indents. Levels 2 upwards work as set up but level one always reverts to a larger indent. How do I overcome this?

Tab: This is automatically inserted with std numbering. What use is it and how do you permanently remove it from the std format.
