Hi Jamal,

Word doesn't support doing footnotes that way. However, you can work around it by attaching the footnote to the start of the first paragraph in the two-column area, formatting the footnote reference there as hidden text, then insert a cross-reference to the footnote where you need it in the one-column area. See attached document.
