the smtp port could be block by hughesnet.
By default the smtp port is 25 (no encryption) ..usually blocked by ISP for security.
Try the alternate port 587. (no encryption)
If you want to try a SSL port , then port 465.

or Ask Hughesnet if they have a smtp server that you can use from their network.
