I was mistaken.
Although Word does not have a command under all commands for blue or black, it does have one for "Color:"
When that is selected, another menu opens and you can choose one of the standard colors. Again, I would recommend that rather than Black, you choose Auto.

This is certainly easier than creating styles, although you are restricted to the standard colors. (With styles you would be able to use the full color wheel and theme colors.)

I was certain there was no way other than styles or macros. Then I checked in Word 2003 and found this method. Then I checked in the latest version and it is still available.


Thank you for being so persistent in your question. You allowed this old dog to learn a not-so-new trick.
