That should work fine.
It is what I do. I use a Group Content Control.
To make it more secure, you could use the macro found at How can I prevent users from editing the header of a document in Word 2000 or higher?
It still works in Word 2024.
Of course, the user must permit macros to run.
These two methods can both be implemented.
