The fact that this was a problem as far back as Windows 95 is very surprising. I haven't had any problems at all since I changed the location of my save for my journal to my SSD ("hard drive").


I guess we can close this down. Thanks again for your help and a Word-history lesson as well.

I think this might be an example of the old "It's not a bug, it's a feature" adage.
I'll sign off, but will keep checking back to see if anyone else has something to add.
