So, your existing paragraph formatting in cell A1 is numbered with indent?

The same thing happens here in Word 2003 and in Word 365.

I do suggest that you look at How to create numbered headings or outline numbering in Word 2003 and earlier versions.
I do not know that it will help with your problem, though.



Workaround: You could use the Format painter or apply a numbered paragraph style as described in Shauna Kelly's article.
