Thanks for your answer.  I checked and my "subscription" (I'm guessing it came with a laptop I purchased and didn't activate for 2-3 years; I never knowingly "subscribed.")  It doesn't expire, however, until October of this year, so I don't know what happened (ie., why the program disappeared).  I did see something on-line about a long, involved process I could go through to "get back" the missing program, but I agree that 2010 Word is better than 365 anyway and it's not a subscription.   I already know I can access files saved from 365 with Word 2010, so I guess it could do no harm to cancel my subscription (at least when it's due to expire), eh?
Although you seem to have a lot of patience, I'm guessing it could get irritating to see "subscription" in quotes all the time, so I'll stop doing it.  It was a way of displaying my scorn for something that I never ordered and didn't like, which is probably only of interest to me.
