Default Picture alignment in Word (Office 2010)

I can bring a picture into a word document. Click on it and bring up the Picture Tools and see the Picture layout. I select the style that is located in column 2 and row 3. This gives me the picture in a field with a text option above it. I can enter the name of the picture. Although it is extremely faint, I can locate the border for the entire object and drag it to the size I want. All this is practically straight forward.

Here is where it gets peculiar...

When I copy and paste a second image then title it and drag to resize, I can never get to to the exact same size as the first one. I cannot align it with the other picture either. It is always lightly off.

The Smart Tools-Format option shows the alignment and size tools the options that I want to use but they are grey-ed out and not accessible.

I cannot group select the objects as I would in almost any other similar situation. I can click on only one object even if I hold down the shift key.

The only options available in Align are; Align to page and Align to Margin. In Size, the settings seem to decide on their own even after I place the same numbers as I did with another object.

Ultimately, I want to save save them individually but I need to have them all the same size as I want to bring in 16 of them into one screen in Paint. From there save it as one image of 16 images and 16 titles.

If this last step can be accomplished in Word, then I wild do it but the alignment and size problems have to be working.

Am I simply asking too much for MS Word or am I overlooking something? I wonder if Publisher can do this but I have never used it and really do';t feel like studying the whole program before knowing if this can be done. I will if it can but I want to know first.
