Thanks for your response. I'm not sure if that add-on you mentioned works, as I couldn't install it on my work computer.
However deep in the body of the site you recommended for me I found a solution.
For anyone who ever has a similar problem to me, the way to fix it is to put a Section Break under the last part of the page you wish to dissociate from the numbering of the next page.
You then click on Insert --> Footer --> Edit Footer --> [and this step is the most important one] Link to Previous
That will stop the footer on the page you are working on linking to the number on the previous page.
A tip I learned is to make sure and click on the Link to Previous button prior to putting in the new number. If you add it after you have typed in the new number it won't work.
