It sounds like someone has pasted a link from another application, such as Excel, into your Microsoft Project file. To locate the pasted data from the other application, add the Edit Links button to your Quick Access Toolbar. When you click this button, the Links dialog will appear. In this dialog, you have the option to open the application containing the source data, and the option to break the links as well. Hope this helps.
