automatically filled data in a doc file

This is my first post and I want to thank you for this opportunity to ask for help.
I received a contract (in MS Word). The contract has some blank spaces where the customers' details should be inserted. The blank spaces are plain dotts like this: ..........
The question is:
1. Is there a way to have the contract filled `automatically` with the clients' data?
2. If yes, where should the clients' data be? In a doc file or in a xls file?
Could someone guide me to do this if it is possible, please?
