Yes, that would show in printing. AFAIK there is nothing equivelent to non-printing field shading for equations.

A simpler shading method might be to apply grey highlighting to the equations. That would avoid the need to play with paragraph indents and you could easily do a Find/Replace to clear all highlighting before printing.
