Converting from PDF back to Word often gives you lots of extra formatting that complicates the content. That might include section breaks, column breaks, rogue paragraph spacing and floating invisible shapes with or without text. Some of that becomes more obvious if you change to Draft View and show all non-printing characters.
A quick fix is to select all, cut it and then Paste Special as Text only. If you don't want to reformat the content from bare text then you will need to manually find and deal with each of the extra formatting items.
