While it is possible for a style named "normal" to be created different from the "Normal" style, what I am seeing is "Normal1" with the numeral 1 appended. That style seems to be applied to all of the text in the document.




Like you, I was surprised, though, to learn that style names do appear to be case-sensitive. I would certainly advise against using two styles that have the same name except for case of the letters in the name.
