The button shows up in the File > Options > Quick Access Toolbar > All Commands and is called Record Macro / Stop Recorder
That’s not what the OP means. By “the recording command” they’re referring to the AutoSave button.

AFAIK there isn’t anything in the object model to hide that button, though IIRC there is a registry hack to disable it.
