I would be setting the superscript by applying a Character Style (eg Footnote Reference)to any superscripts and then your macro only has to change the style definition rather than searching through the document to find all instances. This makes it easy to toggle on/off.

You would probably need a cleanup macro to ensure all superscripts have the char style applied
