Default Using Resource Pool as my Master Project

I have created two scenarios with Master/Sub projects. In the first one, I have created the resource pool, two sub projects and a separate master project. I'm now working with 4 project files.

In the second scenario, I created a resource pool, two sub projects and then closed the resource pool after attaching to the sub projects. When I reopened the resource pool and selected the 3rd option to create a master file, I then attached my two sub projects to this file. Now I have closed the initial resource pool file and I'm working with 3 project files.

Both seem to work fine. Is there an optimal way to utilize these files? Will one method work better than the other? Just worried that one method will lose certain functionality that I'm not aware of at this time.

Thanks
