I'm gonna go crazy please please please help me!!

When I click a cell in a table in a slide it automatically highlights 2X3 or 3X2 or different sized cells. I hit F8 key but no luck. How can I solve this problem? I have Office 2003 on a Windows 7 32bit computer.
