If not MS Office, yes to Libre Office.
Oracle f'd the Open Office product and didn't even learn how to export from Oracle to Excel Properly.
As far as Word goes, I have found that most users are led down an introductory path of how to use it the wrong way. Create documents in Word using the Outline View and use Styles exclusively.
Most .doc/docx applications you should also master Styles in but view others offer the Outline View.
