The only way I know how to do that is, open a new book then immediately save it as a xlsm file.
That is correct ... who first have to save the workbook as .XLSM

I have this code embedded in a workbook. How do I view it when I'm in the book?
Right click any sheet tab, then select VIEW CODE.

The suggested macro found in How to highlight active cell or selection in Excel? should be pasted in the ThisWorkbook module.

Right click any sheet tab and select VIEW CODE.

Then, on the left side, double-click the module name ThisWorkbook.

Now, paste the macro code in the large white colored window on the right.

Save the workbook as .XLSM and close it.

Re-open the workbook and click on any cell.
