I split your new questions off from the previous thread because they had nothing to do with display of page numbers in print preview on Word 97.

When you place more in a header or footer than the area allowed for the header or footer, it pushes the text in the body out of the way to accommodate. Text or objects in the header will push down into the body area and move text out of the way. Text or objects in the footer will push up into the body and move text out of the way.


The the header and footer are normally outside of the page margin. Sections / Headers and Footers in Microsoft Word 97-2003
Press Alt+F9 or Fn+Alt+F9 to toggle display of field codes. This is a Word option.
