You may be able to see what template is attached to your document, if it is not Normal.dotm -- though Normal is the default template when opening Word, as stated above.

If the Developer tab is not displayed in the Word Ribbon, go to File/Customize Ribbon and check it in the right-hand pane. Press OK to save it. In your document, open the Developer tab and select Document template. does it say Normal or something else?
