Default latex equation editor not rendering correctly

I'm attempting to use the latex with MS Word's equation editor. I've been having pretty good luck so far...until recently. Does MS Word's latex option for equations support the use of \substack{...}. It's been difficult to find information online.

For example, the following renders just fine in a vanilla latex environment (first attached image):

\biggl[ \underbrace{ \biggl( \rho T \frac{D s}{D t}\biggr)}_{\text{Entropy} \atop \text{advection}} \biggr]

But in word, the exact same raw latex renders as the second attached image. Why? Or perhaps a better way to ask, is there some component of the raw latex that isn't supported by word? But if that were the case, Word typically won't render anything. Does anyone know of a work-around?
