I believe you get what you pay for - if you are willing to take the risk with cheaper, hacked versions of the software then you have to live with the consequences of that. I would source it from
Microsoft.com, but it would certainly hurt if that cost was coming from my own pocket.
For me, Visio Standard is good enough and Visio Professional costs twice as much but has extra capability and stencils which might justify its additional cost. If you are a student or teacher, you may be able to source an educational version at a better price.
You can buy it via subscription which looks more affordable - either web only or Visio Professional(?) desktop + web.
