Which version of Word are you using? Your user profile is showing Word 2003 and an free trial of that has long expired. (Please update your profile on this forum.)
This is not a problem with the file, but rather with how Windows interprets the file extension.
There are several ways to address this. My suggestion is to try a "quick" repair of Office or Word (takes less than 10 minutes). Repair an Office application - Office Support
