It appears that you can't do this in Word because you are embedding the Excel ranges in the Word document. If these charts and tables were linked to an external Excel document it would work but it appears to not work with Embeddings.
I tried a method that works with graphics - insert the graphic once, then copy and paste it within Word. This creates a single copy of the graphic in the media folder within Word. However, using this same approach with an embedded Excel file gives me duplicates in the embeddings folder - so that isn't going to work.
Is there a reason you can't link to an external Excel file as your source?
