Default Word Styles with Numbered Lists

Hi:

I am working on a document that contains numbered lists AND text.

I created a STYLE(1) for the numbered lists. I created a STYLE(2) for the text.

I applied STYLE(1) to the 1st list and it formatted correctly:

1. fjsdjl
2. skjdfjk
3. skjfskjf
4. ajksdjflk

I applied STYLE(2) to the text following and it formatted correctly:

ksdljdsljsldlsskddf kj kkdflk lkajdf lkajdd lkkad dfkk aldf kka
kasjdflaj dsdlkfjsd k klladfkjsdlkfjl

I then applied STYLE(1) to the next (2nd) list and it formatted like this:

5. akjdjks
6. asjdkfjs
7. skdjfs
etc., etc.

I can't tell STYLE(1) to "Start a New List".

If I remove the STYLE(1) from the 1st list, the 2nd list formats correctly, starting with 1, 2, etc., however, if I re-apply STYLE(1) to the 1st list, eventually the 2nd lists starts at 5 (again).

I have absolutely NO idea how to get around this problem. I must be doing something wrong.

As much as I would like to manually enter the numbers on the lists, I need to Right Align 1-9 to line up with 10, 11, etc. on a long list. I could do this manually and I may end of doing just that if I can't figure out WTF is going on.

Thanks for any assistance!!

Doug
