  • Using Date Fields in Microsoft Word
  • You should not be opening documents, changing them, and using SaveAs (although you can then update a CreateDate Field) or copying documents and opening the copy. You should be creating new documents based on a template, or if necessary, another document. To create a new document based on an existing document, right-click on the existing document and choose New.


Creating a new document based on an existing document is a poor idea for many reasons. From my standpoint as a lawyer, the key one is metadata, but there are many more.
