This is the problem: Click Fill in the left pane, click Color in the right pane, and then click the color that matches the background of your presentation. My current presentation doesn't have a monochromatic background... My background is blue and it melts into white so it's impossible to solve it this way.

So sorry to hear it didn't work for you. Maybe try this instead... Follow the steps at the Microsoft website as you did before,
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/po...010242098.aspx. But change the background color of the rectangle to "No Fill."
To do this, select the rectangle on your page and select "Format," "Shape Fill" and "No Fill." I believe you've already set the "Shape Outline" under the "Format" tab to "No Fill" as well? If not, change that as well.
This should hopefully do the trick.
