Default Help with page numbering starting from a specific page

I am using Word 2007 on Win 7.
I follow the instructions as per info and videos on the net but I can't seem to undertake page numbering starting from a specific page successfully.

As per instructions -

  1. Determine where you want your page numbering to begin (e.g., page 4), and then place your cursor at the beginning of page 4.
  2. In Word 2007, from the Page Layout tab, in the "Page Setup" group, select Breaks. Then, from the drop-down list, select Next Page.
When I get this far, Word has added a new blank page between pages 3 and 4. I follow the rest of the instructions until I have numbered the pages as I required them, ie., starting at page 4, but I am left with an extra blank page preceding the numbered page that I cannot seem to get rid of. What am I doing wrong?
