Not sure I fully understand (I'm not a pro with Word!) but you may have pointed me in the right direction...

I clicked into the header and clicked 'Remove Page Numbers' under the Header & Footer section of the toolbar - this has solved the missing footer for invoices that are short, but for long invoices that go onto a second page the footer is still missing?
