Default Can Animation Speed and Duration Be Controlled Separately

Hi everyone. I have a quick question that I've been searching for an answer to for a month. Does anyone know how to adjust the speed and duration of animated effects SEPARATELY? I want to specify that I'm not talking about transition because the entire presentation is one slide playing a 30 minute video with a ticker underneath. I'm trying to do a continuous newsticker on this slide. The speed I want the ticker to scroll at is perfect if the animation is set at 8-10 seconds duration. The problem is, it has enough information that it needs to scroll for a lot longer than that to show everything (think many, many minutes rather than seconds). If I do it at 8 seconds, for example, the speed is good, but then it loops after about five words (or the 8 seconds). If I set it for longer, it scrolls at about one words every 15 - 20 seconds. I can't seem to find a way to do it where they both aren't controlled by the duration setting. Do I need to program it in VB or is there a simpler way?
