Activation is a way of providing your user information to Microsoft so they can monitor who is using their software. If you want to get rid of the activation reminder notice, then follow the prompts and activate your software. When you activate it, you may need to pay a subscription fee. MS Office is normally purchased as an annual subscription. If your subscription was paid for over a year ago, it will probably now be due for another payment. Buying a computer off someone doesn't entitle you to use their software licences for the life of that computer.
