It appears that somehow all my emails in Inbox were moved to Deleted items, without me doing so or deleting them.
There must be some special short-cut in Outlook 2019 that does this (maybe Ctrl then another key) which I don't know about, because there is no way I could have done an accidental Select All (or ctrl-A) then hit Delete key.
