Default Windows explorer search problem...help!!

Here's my new environment: Windows 7, Office 2003 basic, active directory integrated environment.

Here's the issue at hand.
I have a user who is used to using windows explorer to search for files within a shared folder on a data drive. The share folder structure is as follows: Q:\\Word\RO\ or Q:\\Word\FK\ or Q:\\Word\O\...etc.

My user would select the <Word> root folder and perform a search of a file with a specific character string, for example "white". It is possible for filenames starting with this character string to reside in any of the sub folders within <Word> and quite possibly in multiple sub folders. The user likes to click the upper right hand search tool in windows explorer to perform this search. When this procedure is followed, no files are found even though we select a known string of characters.

This is a new system in the domain. The previous system was old and retired. It's environment was: Windows XP, Office 2003 basic, active directory integrated environment.

The old system would perform this function without any problems. Any ideas?
