Yes, it is possible. I have done so in the past with very complicated network diagrams and Rack layouts using Excel spreadsheets as the source and VBA code to pull shapes from stencils and connect the shapes.

It was heaps of work though and is not a trivial exercise. Automating the process was massively beneficial and removes a lot of the drafting risk with the metadata associated with each shape.
