I've discovered that if I save the document as a older version of a Word document, (97-2003), then the selection process works fine.
Any idea about how I can correct this without having to resort to this strange, inconvenient procedure?

I haven't seen this happening myself with Extend Selection.
Does the problem occur with any document in *.docx format or just with some?
