The widow-orphan control is not the problem here. I have it turned off by default in my main document. Here it is true that it was on, so I turned it off and then decreased the line spacing the that last para of the first page from 1.25 to 1.24, and it pulled both lines to the first page, as you'll see in the attached document.
But my problem in the main document is that having achieved this, it still doesn't allow the four line poem to begin at the top line of the following page. Here in the test document this is not the case; having got all the lines of the prior para to remain on the prior page, the four line poem is now starting on the first line of the next page as it should. This is not the case in my main document, so the text document is not reproducing the problem. I do not think this has anything to do with Hindi font, as this problem has not occurred anywhere else in my 330 page document.
