The screen shots are difficult to interpret, even though you have enabled the display of nonprinting marks.
At a guess, text flow options (Paragraph dialog box) are responsible for what you see.
Some of these options, such as "Keep with next," may cause unexpected page breaks. If a lot of successive paragraphs are set to "Keep with next," paragraphs will be chasing each other and a page break may occur where you least expect it to be.
In addition, there is a setting for "Page break before" which will cause an affected paragraph to be moved to the top of the next page.
Of course, that doesn't explain why simply opening the document on another PC fixed the issue.
