I'm with you; it sounds like a nightmare. In my last job, I spent many (many, many, many...) hours cleaning up exactly that kind of garbage in preparation for generating 508-compliant PDFs...I suspect that setting might have made a difference, but we didn't know about it.

I'll definitely clear it before I release these templates to the users!
