Default Can you have date and currency fields detect regional settings for format?

I am trying to create one merge template that can be used worldwide. After searching, it doesn't appear that there is a way to insert a formula/switch/etc to have the date/currency fields format based on the regional settings of the user. But I wanted to just make sure before I give up. Our software application provides merge contracts and proposals to our users. Currently, we allow customers to edit their own merge templates so they can format the dates/currency formats. But we are trying to provide a single set of templates for our limited service product that does not allow them to edit. Any ideas?
