Charles' advice is perhaps a bit extreme. Yes, you risk losing you work if you save to a flash drive then don't use the 'safe removal' process before removing it, but it's quite safe if you do use that process. The problem was quite acute in the days of floppy disk drives but, now they've gone the way of the dinosaur, it's quite safe with multi-gigabyte USB drives of all persuasions.

Your "Not Responding" issue in this thread most likely concerns a USB drive whose contents have been corrupted by not going through the 'safe removal' process before removing it.
