If a .docx file is password protected for opening, it must be opened in Word 2007 or later with the password. I do not believe that Word Online can deal with passwords.


Password protection for opening is a type of encryption.



I would go with Word 2013 or later.


If you have your installation disk and product key, chances are good that you can reinstall on the new computer.
