The problem is that I now have 2 copies of each incoming email. I would prefer not to take up additional storage with the copy. More importantly, I would like the email to go away without having to delete it from 2 locations. (Maybe this is a feature to be suggested to Microsoft?)
Any other ideas?

Change your rule so that instead of sending a copy to the "Universal Inbox" it moves the messages instead. That will prevent you from getting 2 of everything.
What kind of account is this? POP3? IMAP? Hotmail? Exchange? Something else?
